Thanks to its extremely absorbing sponge, this rubber gives the impression of freezing the power of the opponent’s attacking strokes. The developers at Sunflex have really done a great job with this innovation. The special dampening sponge was combined with a unique pimple geometry, making this rubber extremely slow. Even when serving, strokes can be played very short – you actually have to put some energy into them to keep them from getting caught in the net. As soon as the opponent goes into attacking mode, they will be surprised: The short and safe blocks make it difficult for the opponent to keep their usual attacking rhythm. This alone creates plenty of opportunities for launching forehand counterattacks.
In passive blocks, spin reversal is good but not extreme, but if you disrupt topspin strokes using strong wrist movements, this will lead to quite impressive spin reversal. When blocking more actively or attempting to counter the opponent’s topspin strokes, the ball trajectory can be very unpleasant for the opponent. However, the Dr. Freeze is not very suitable for defensive play, given that the sponge is so absorbent that players need to use apply a lot of strength to send the ball into the opponent’s half. Those who like to play close to the table, however, will highly enjoy this rubber. No matter the spin or speed of the opponent’s attacks, blocks will be extremely safe and short.
