Lion Trapper X: Technical Product Overview
The Trapper X is a long pimple rubber by Lion, completely newly developed in 2025.
Material Characteristics
Pimple Geometry: The pimples are extremely thin—even thinner than those of the Dornenglanz—but feature maximum length. The Trapper X fully exhausts the maximum allowable pimple geometry limits.
Structure: The spacing between the pimples is in the medium range, and they are arranged horizontally. The pimple tops are ribbed.
Rubber Compound: The compound is extremely soft—softer than any other long pimple in the Lion range—and exceptionally grippy.
Durability: Despite the thin structure, the pimples are robust; pimple breakage is not expected to be an issue.
Speed: The speed is in the lower range. It is slightly faster than the Dornenglanz III and significantly faster than the Dornenglanz X.
Sponge Version: The 1.0 mm version features a medium-hard, rather slow sponge (Red rubber: orange sponge; Black rubber: blue sponge).
Playing Characteristics
The Trapper X is highly versatile and specifically designed for an active, close-to-the-table disruptive game utilizing chop-blocks, push-blocks, and counter-attacks.
Because the pimples buckle (bend) very quickly, the rubber is not particularly easy to control. However, this results in a very high disruptive effect. Thanks to the low "trampoline effect" and moderate speed, the Trapper X remains manageable with practice. Overall, the rubber favors a playing style with significant wrist involvement.
Note on Versions: The OX (no sponge) version is generally more effective than the sponge version. While the sponge improves long-range backspin defense at the expense of other strokes, it is somewhat inconsistent with the rubber's primary strengths.
Target Group
The Trapper X is clearly not a beginner's rubber and is aimed at high-performance players. Whether one prefers the fast-buckling nature of the pimples is a matter of taste, but the disruptive effect is sufficient for the highest leagues.
Our testers found the Trapper X to be an excellent alternative to the Tibhar Grass D.TecS—offering a similar playstyle but with slightly less speed and less of a "bouncy" trampoline effect.
Assembly Instructions
We strongly recommend mounting the OX version using an adhesive sheet. Please note that the adhesive sheet is not included in the scope of delivery.
