During passive play, the Icebreaker provides good spin reversal when blocking the opponent’s topspin strokes. Short returns can be performed very safely and with high precision. However, in times of the plastic ball, it is not enough anymore to just play passively and wait for an error of the opponent. This is exactly where the Icebreaker’s strengths come into play.
The rubber offers multiple options when playing actively, thus making strokes much more effective and dangerous. Especially when the opponent is blocking or pushing instead of attacking, the Icebreaker allows for highly unpleasant offensive strokes.
This variability makes the Icebreaker so effective: Constantly switching between short stop balls, long lifts, and counter-attacks with the reversed pimple side makes it difficult for opponents to follow their usual game plan.
